July 12th 2009, heavy snow year. We figured the snow would be melted enough by now to at least make it up to Isabelle Glacier in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. We just made it. Although the day started out sunny, it quickly became overcast by the time we reached Isabelle Lake. Most people were not going any further because of the amount of snow still covering parts of the trail. We braved the snow crossings and the trail turned out to be quite clear most of the way up. Wet, yes. Marmots in the boulder fields, yes. They seemed to say, "Why are you here?" After making it to the glacier, it was quite windy and temperatures were probably in the 50s. Thankfully no threatening clouds were above us and we made it down safely. We even got to slide down some snow fields on the way back. It was so fun we climbed them again just to slide down again. :)
